ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

CHENNAI CHAPTER

A month-long experiential entrepreneurship development program, which will help young and dynamic young persons to become entrepreneurs, began at all over Tamilnadu. The duration of the program will be one month 01.03.2010 to 30.03.2010. The five centres are Chennai, Trichirappalli, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Madurai. Government of Tamilnadu launched “Entrepreneurship Development program” along with Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Government of Tamil Nadu, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), Chennai. The inauguration ceremony of Chennai chapter was held at YMCA Teynampet, Chennai.

The EDP was inaugurated by Mr. Kutralingam IAS, Secretary MSME, and was addressed by Mr. Vishy Viswanathan, from TIE, Mr. Sudeep Jain, IAS, Special Officer - EDI, Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Padmasingh Issac, Founder Chairman, Aachi masala Mr. Sridhar, Director CII and Dr Paarivallal, Corporate consultant.

The EDP was attended by several students with as diverse a background as arts, management, science and engineering graduates and general public from different employment backgrounds such as IT, manufacturing, banking, etc.

In his inauguration address, Mr. Kutralingam IAS said: “Almost 50-75% of the country’s GDP is contributed by the MSME sector, which also generates almost 60-70% of employment. It is therefore, extremely important for young minds to come up with new ideas and not stop at that, but execute them into successful businesses.

Mr. Sudeep Jain, Special Officer, EDI, Government of Tamil Nadu, said: “By 2020 or so India will have 50% of its manpower under 35 years old. For such a young nation employment generation is paramount. We see no other way except creation of entrepreneurship in a big way.

Motivational speech by Mr. Padmasingh Issac gives more energy to the young aspirants.

Several young aspiring entrepreneurs are expected to greatly benefit from the program.

HUMBLE BEGINNING

1981 – Start his chemical business with the investment of ` 75,000 in Chennai.

He bought all the used office equipment with less cost and set the new office.

March 6, 1981 he started his own company “Pure Chemicals”

The first month turnover was ` 23,000 and the profit was ` 3,000

The business has grown in a good manner and at the end of the financial year he got ` 1,20,000 turnover and the profit of ` 1,00,000

1984 – Mr. Ponnuswami described that the decision making of expansion, he started the branch office in Erode. This business expansion idea created more business and more customer base to the company.

1986 – Mr. Ponnuswami got the dealership for the selected areas (Erode, Salem and Coimbatore) of Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd for Soda Ash.

1991 – The company turnover has been reached ` 5 crore.

Mr. Ponnuswami strongly believes that customer satisfaction is the key for his success. He retains and expands his customer base with goodwill of the company and ethical business practice.

He said “Do not argue with customer”.

The growing market he opened the branches all over South India.

2001 – His business growing rapidly, he landmarked his ` 100 crore turnover.

Started distributing Exxon Mobil products.

The company pioneers in Environmental safety measures, underground storage tank, lab to certify quality, and safety engineers team.

From the inception of the company, it posts only profit balance sheet. In 2008, due to recession the company has posted the loss, in this time Mr. Ponnuswami has decided to take the challenge. The reason behind this, world wide recession results the decreasing crude oil price. In this time, Mr. Ponnuswami dealing more new products with the market and recruit good technical people for the company.

Dubai branch did not give the profit because of the recession, he decided to change the branch incharge and appointed the new person, after sometime the Dubai branch has been worked normally.

2010 – Last year the company turnover was ` 750 crore.

2011 – Mr. Ponnuswami proudly told that the company expecting turnover of ` 1200 crore for this year.

The speech is the very motivational and helpful one. The ultimate thing he believes “Customer satisfaction”. The success story of Mr. Ponnuswami tells us hardwork and customer oriented in business always gives success.
